Setting up Mark (Grade) sheets for Scanning systems SRC 600
- Attach the scanner to COM1
- Then edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT for that workstation and insert the following line mode com1:96,,,2,
- If it's half day attendance - so no Attendance Parameters option in menu.
- Select the scanner from Grades, Enter Grades, Enter grades by scanner.
- If the school is using period or class attendance choose the type of scanner from Attendance, Attendance Parameters.
- The scanner should also be fed a scanner calibration sheet with the default settings. Since your Middle Schools are using half-day attendance - select the type of scanner from Grades, Enter Grades, Enter grades by scanner.
- Check the Printer Description Sheet which lists the codes for printing the scanner Grade sheets on a laser printer. If your school is printing on a dot-matrix printer select the IBM proprinter Printer Description, from Printer Description (DOS), Select Printer Description for Output.
- Under Grades, Print Scanner lists, choose either 3 or 4 depending on which scanner is being emulated. Try saying No to 'Is each page to start down half a line for proper alignment' to start with, if the bubbles don't line up we can change this to Yes. Choose Yes for 'Is each student's name to be printed in upper case?'. First off you will need to print a termination sheet, and then print the class lists either alphabetically or by Teacher; whichever is more convenient for distribution.
- Next choose File, Maintenance, Test Scanner Sheet to verify that the sheet is being read in correctly. If the Scanner test screen shows extra bubbles try raising the threshold, but not above 60 since higher than that it may mis-read bubbles.
- To Scan in the Grades choose Grades, Enter Grades/Comments, Enter Grades by scanner and always choose the Print errors option so that any errors are caught at the appropriate sheet can be re-scanned. Then there are a series of questions to specify what grade/comment is stored in what grade/comment column.
