Alberta - Student Grade Level of Achievement (GLA) Report

This report is no longer required but is available from Maplewood SIS.

 Alberta Education has made some changes to the allowable letter grades that can be entered for the GLA in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, ELA and FLA. The new allowable letter grades are:

AT - At Grade Level
AB - Above Grade Level
BE - Below Grade Level
NA - Not Applicable

In order for teachers to properly enter this information, The office will have to setup these new grades, within Marks, Define Letter Grades.

Overview

At the end of each school year, Alberta district school boards and school area boards are required to submit information on students' grade level of achievement (for Grades 1 to 9) to Alberta Education (via Edulink). This report provides Alberta Education with achievement information for both students on graded curriculum and students with disabilities who are not on a graded curriculum within your school board.

This report is only to include those students currently registered in grades 1 to 9, as well as any special education students at the elementary level who have not been integrated into the classroom setting (Students with a status of Ungraded). The software will only include students currently enrolled in grades 1 to 9 or U (ungraded).  Students with a deleted status or those in Early Childhood (EC) will not be included.

NB: Please review the following before creating the Grade Level of Achievement Report.

1) Alberta Learning requires that only certain values be available for Mark Entry.

These are:

For Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, ELA and FLA one of the following codes are valid AT, AB, BE, or NA
AT - At Grade Level
AB - Above Grade Level
BE - Below Grade Level
NA - Not Applicable

For Life Skills, Academic Readiness Skills and Foundation Skills the mark must be A, M, S, N or NA

A = All
M = Most
S = Some
N = None
NA = Not Applicable

Schools will be required to enter this information into the definition of allowable letter grades. This can be done by selecting Marks, Define Letter Grades.

2) If a student has a mark in both FLA and ELA, the office must enter the grade in which ELA was introduced. This can be done through the student's record. Go to Students, Student Records, select the student in question, then go to the Enrollment tab, select Edit, Choose the Other Fields Tab, at the bottom right area of the tab will be the area to enter this information. Note: Only students enrolled Grant Program 211 or 221 will have access to this field.

3) Students who have marks entered for IPP should not have any marks entered for ELA, FLA or Math (and vice versa).

Creating the Grade Level of Achievement Report

At the school level:

1. Choose Reports, SIS, Grade Level of Achievement Report.

2. Choose to View or Export the file.

At the board level:

1. Choose Reports, SIS, Grade Level of Achievement Report.
2. Select the schools you wish to include in the report.
3. Choose to View or Export the file.

Note: If the option to include deleted students or include grade other than 01 to 09/UG is selected, the user will not be able to select the Export option. Remove the checkmark from these fields in order to have access to the Export option.

An Error report will be generated at the end of the export file creation if there are any issues with a student's data. The error log will include students that have one or more of the following issues with data entry:

1) Missing Alberta Student Number - students who do not have an Alberta Student Number entered in Maplewood (Students, Student Records, Enrollment, Edit, Alberta Student Number) will not be included in the export file. Schools should request an Alberta Student Number from Alberta Learning via SIS, import the SIS file that was returned and re-create the GLA export file.

2) No ELA Introduction Grade - Student in grade 01 to 09 must have a GLA Introduction Grade (Students, Student Records, Enrollment, Edit, Other Fields, Grade ELA was introduced) if there is a mark in GLA - English Language Arts and GLA - French Language Arts. If this information is not present, please enter the information and re-create the GLA export file

3) Wrong ELA Introduction Grade - The GLA Introduction Grade (Students, Student Records, Enrollment, Edit, Other Fields, Grade ELA was introduced) field is only valid for students who are in grade 01 to 09. If a student has a mark in GLA - English Language Arts and GLA - French Language Arts and the student is not in Grade 01 to 09 then schools should remove the marks within Topic-Based Marks or correct the student's grade (Students, Student Records, Biographics, Edit) and re-create the GLA export file. Note: recreation of the file is only required if a student who appears on the printout with this error is actually in grade 01 to 09. Students who are not in grade 01 to 09 are not included in the export file.

4) Wrong mark entries found - If marks for Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, ELA and/or FLA are not AT (At), AB (Above), BE (Below)  or NA (Not Applicable), then the student's name will appear ont his list. Please view the student's information within Topic Based Marks (Marks, Topic Baed Marks, Enter Marks/Comments), enter the correct grading information, and re-create the GLA export file.

Once all errors have been resolved and a new export file has been creates, users can now import the file into Edulink for further validation and submission to Alberta Education.
