Specialist High Skills Major: Student Data Report by Sector

Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) let students focus on a career path that matches their skills and interests while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Students will receive the SHSM's seal on their diploma when they

Schools who have students enrolled in a SHSM Program are required to report this information to the ministry. Below is a sample of the required areas of reporting,  how this report can be produced in Maplewood, and what Maplewood is looking for to populate this information.

This report option can be found under Reports, Annual Action Plan

Choose the High Skills Major Report option, the Cohort Determination that you would like and the Report Dates desired. Select the Create button to generate the report.

Selecting the View option will display a copy of the printed report.

Selecting the Details option will allow the user to print the students that are being included in each section of the report.

Below is a sample of the report, and description of how each section is populated.

SHSM Student Data Requested Where in Maplewood it can be found and/or how the information is calculated
1. Total number of SHSM students enrolled  at the beginning of semester (do not count students from another board)
Total number of students who have been assigned a SHSM Program requirement. SHSM Program requirement can be found under Students, History tab, Edit, within the General Information area. High Skill Major program and Pathway needs to be assigned. Internal transfers are looked at to determine when this information was assigned and if it falls within the report dates selected. Information is broken down by semester, age and gender

Please Note:

  • If a student retires on first day of school (Sept) - then the program will not include the student in the totals.
  • If a student retires on the first day of Sem 2 - then the program will not include the student in the totals for Sem 2.
  • Program will also look at Previous Enrolment to determine inclusion of student.
2. Total number of SHSM students enrolled  at the end of each semester 
Total number of students who still have a SHSM Program requirement. SHSM Program requirement can be found under Students, History tab, Edit, within the General Information area. High Skill Major program and Pathway needs to be assigned. Internal transfers are looked at to determine when this information was assigned and if it falls within the report dates selected. Information is broken down by semester, age and gender.

Please Note:

3. Total number of students enrolled in this SHSM from another board
This information cannot be populated by Maplewood.
4. Total number of credits attempted in each semester (include all credits in students' timetables)
Total number of credits attempted for all students who are enrolled in an SHSM Program (within the count dates). The program will look at the student transcript to determine all credits attempted for the Semester (Semester 1 = Completion Date from September to February of the current school year; Semester 2 Completion date from March to June of the current school year). Includes failed and withdrawn courses. Information is broken down by semester, age and gender.

Note: SHSM Program requirement can be found under Students, History tab, Edit, within the General Information area. High Skill Major program and Pathway needs to be assigned. Internal transfers are looked at to determine when this information was assigned and if it falls within the report dates selected.

5. Total number of credits earned in each semester (include all credits in students' timetables)
Total number of credits achieved for all students who are enrolled in an SHSM Program (within the count dates). The program will look at the student transcript to determine all credits successfully completed (credit value greater than zero) for the Semester (Semester 1 = Completion Date from September to February of the current school year; Semester 2 Completion date from March to June of the current school year). Information is broken down by semester, age and gender

6. Total number of students earning an OSSD with an SHSM designation 
 Student who have completed all SHSM requirements (this includes required Certification and Training; Experiential Learning and Exploration Activities; 'Reach Ahead' activities; and Ontario Skills Passport. This information can be access through Students, History tab, Cert/Train button) within the same month of the First Diploma being granted (Students, History tab, Edit, Diplomas, First). The SHSM Completion date is currently being calculated by Maplewood internally. However an upcoming enhancement will enable users to enter this information. Information is broken down by semester, age and gender.
Population of Semester 1 columns will include all diploma granted from September to February of the current school year
Population of Semester 2 columns will include all diploma granted from March to June of the current school year

7. Total number of dual credits attempted each semester
  • Total number of dual credits attempted for all students who are enrolled in an SHSM Program (within the count dates). The program will look at the student transcript to determine all credits attempted for the Semester (Semester 1 = Completion Date from September to February of the current school year; Semester 2 Completion date from March to June of the current school year). Includes failed and withdrawn courses. Information is broken down by semester, age and gender.

The program will look at the student transcript to determine all credits successfully completed (credit value greater than zero) for the Semester (Semester 1 = Completion Date from September to February of the current school year; Semester 2 Completion date from March to June of the current school year). Information is broken down by semester, age and gender.
